The morning sun highlights the spectacular colors of limu and corals along the coastline on Kauai’s north shore. Sea turtles will frequent these areas to feed on the limu, clean themselves, and rest.

Kaena Point is a land like no other place on Oahu. This protected tip of the island has so much diversity, from oceanfront nesting grounds for albatross to steep, crumbling cliffs. In this photograph, the landscape could easily be mistaken for New England.

Settling into position on a volcanic black sand beach, this Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, or “honu”, needs its rest before heading back out to sea. Turtles are migratory animals that travel thousands of miles in the open ocean. Their anatomy has hardly changed in millions of years, since the time of the dinosaurs.
